Collie and the Wellington National Park

  COLLIE &
THE WELLINGTON NATIONAL PARK

We went to Collie to see the mainly see the mural on the Collie Dam wall. Little did we know the town and it's surrounds had loads more to offer than that. We already planning to return to MTB and explore the area more.

We had a great drive from the Stirling Ranges to Collie and saw loads of wildlife and virtually no other traffic.

We stopped on the way into town to view the huge coal mine.

Despite the mine, the town is lovely and clean with a nice van park and a fantastic mural trail.

The local RSL club had some fantastic murals on its walls.

The highlight of the area is the new Wellington Dam wall mural that was completed in 2021.
It was painted by 35yo Australian artist Guido Van Heltan and at 34m high and 367m long, is the largest dam wall mural in the world.
How he did it is mind blowing....

The Wellington National Park had so many awesome little camp spots and places to explore. You could spend days exploring the area.
Honeymoon Pools was a highlight and a great place for a swim - but sooo cold!

On our way out of town the next morning we stopped at a quiet part of the Collie River that was only a few km out of town.
There were loads of ducks on the still water.

For the rest of the day we travelled out to Stockton Dam and camp on the edge.
It was an old mine site that was filled with fresh water and is now popular as a small camping and watersport lake.
We finally got to use the SUP for the first time since being away.
